You will operate across the full span of strategy engagements including board level corporate strategy, organisational transformation and innovative commercial frameworks, working as part of a close-knit team passionate about this important industry sector. 

The role includes the following activities:

  • Developing strategic business models: helping clients determine the optimum business or commercial model to more effectively deliver their objectives;
  • Strategic options analysis and evaluation: working with clients to understand and shape strategic options ahead of key investment decisions;
  • Strategic cost reduction: helping clients determine where, and how, to cut costs whilst continuing to deliver and achieve outcomes;
  • Stimulating innovation: helping clients to identify new ways of working that will stimulate innovation and growth, and lead to better policy and decision-making;
  • Delivering policy outcomes: helping our clients to support delivery of policy outcomes and enabling programmes; and
  • Market analysis: traditional evidence-led analysis of sectors to identify market development opportunities to support client strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Generating analysis and insight: executing rigorous and insightful analysis to build an evidence base to support strategy development and change;
  • Tools, skills and frameworks: developing an understanding of effective tools, skills and frameworks that can be brought to bear on new client problems, and shared as best practice within the team;
  • Team management: managing and supporting junior staff in order to ensure successful project delivery;
  • Relationship management: Working closely with clients and third parties (e.g. academics) to develop strong professional relationships;
  • Liaising with other internal teams to ensure the effective application of the subject matter expertise available, and a seamless client experience;
  • Continuous Learning: proactively developing your own skills, seeking feedback, building knowledge, and sharing your insight with colleagues; and
  • Supporting the management of the practice and successful business development

Requirements

  • Practical understanding of the issues faced in one or more of the Defence, Security and Home Affairs industries
  • Experience of working on strategy projects
  • Ideally 2-3 years Consulting experience (or equivalent relevant industry experience)
  • Experience of working on high-profile and complex projects
  • Degree or equivalent qualification
  • Demonstrable experience of managing stakeholder relationships
  • Ability to think creatively to solve client issues
  • Evidence of structured thinking and the ability to break down complex issues into logical steps
  • Experience providing strategic advice and support to complex change programmes
  • Solid analytical skills, with the ability to design and execute complex analysis and generate well evidenced and robust insights and recommendations
  • The ability to interact and work effectively with senior Public sector leader
  • Existing security clearance or willingness to undergo vetting procedures
  • For roles within the Security industry candidates will require existing DV clearance, or be willing to undergo vetting
  • For our Defence strategy team, experience defining and advising on complex commercial procurements in Defence or analogous industries would be of significant interest
