Hi allI joined KPMG Advisory about 19 months ago as a grad with the mistaken belief that I'd be doing some interesting consulting work. What a mistake that was.I am continuously booked onto audit after audit and the work is so dull, I fear that I actually may go insane. I really cannot believe how boring it is. The initially least appealing part of the job, doing an ACA, may actually be its saving grace as it will allow me to do other things after. This post was partly a rant, but also I'd be interested to hear what advice people have to get me out of this dire situation.

Don't despair Membrane; the ACA is well worth having. I suggest stick it out to complete your ACA and ride out the recession in situ if you can: when things start to pick up (and they will) you should start to see enough options come your way to make it all worthwhile.

Interestingly I turned down an offer at KPMG Advisory and instead choose to work for a "boutique" strat house. If it makes you feel any better the work isn't particuarly thrilling, the hours can be long and I constantly worry that I passed up ACA and brand name for 'interesting work'.

Ditto for passing up EY BAS, ACN and Deloitte for a job in industry.I've been able to fight for morsels of interesting work, however, it took nearly 12 months of trying.

who cares!you got a job + ACA qualification in progress.if you are that bored, why dont you get a second job? to stimulate yourself. i.e play the markets

Of course don't really do that unless you want to lose a lot of money. Play a game you can win or learn a language!Sit tight, get your ACA and maybe things will look a little rosier in PE / IBD when you qualify.

Casio,its only money. + if the guy is that bored getting up at 4am to do some stimulating market analysis would be a good thing. OR learn a language!

I think he'd have more chance of making money selling the financial analysis than investing himself. It is only money though.

Well thanks for some of the supportive points. I think others missed the point. When I say I'm bored, I'm bored with the content of the work; I don't have that much time on my hands to get up at 4am and learn a language or play the markets. Especially when I get in from audits at 1am. Hours (or lack of) don't bore me, boring work does.
