All,I am currently working as a Business & Technology Consultant for a large blue chip firm on the graduate scheme. After completing two years at the firm I would like to move into Strategy Consulting and am looking at ways to sell my skills to Strategy consulting firms.Do Strategy consulting firms value the skills gained by IT Consultants and are there specific additional requirements to move into Strategy as an experienced hire alongside the typical case interview and personal interview?Regards,RW

There's no flexibility in the current climate.

I work in IT consulting in a big 4 - often alongside our strategy consultants. In my experience the strat consultants are extremely cliquey and insecure, so definitely look down on IT consultants. If you aren't from the right background I would say it's very hard to penetrate.

It's funny how the strategy people tend to look down on the IT people. In my experience (and I have done both), the IT people are the ones with the real skills! Standing in front of a crowd looking authoritative whilst spouting out generalities, acting knowledgable when you're not, and using your 'soft skills' isn't, in my opinion, conducive to producing anything useful.

RW,Try and match you current skill set to what is required in strat consulting. From this see where your strengths and weaknesses lie. Coming from IT background you may not have the relevant finance skills, if this is so then look at ways to correct.
