I am a manager (9 years operations and IT consulting experience) at one of the Big 4 and I'm thinking of relocating to Australia (Sydney). What sort of salary (range) could I expect (from the Big 4 or Accenture/IBM) if I were to make such a move?

Managers salaries in australia are about AUD 180k, which is quite good. There are high income taxes, which take away a large chunk of this. Companies like ACN, IBM etc will pay a bit less, perhaps aroung 150-160k, as they use their brand names to skimp out on salaries.

that initial assessment may be over optimistic. having been a manager in sydney, the approx salary band is more like 80-120k. if you are brought out / sponsored by a company and are not an australian citizen, you are also entitled to the living away from home allowance (LAFHA) [or you were 2 years ago]. this allows you to deduct your living exp e.g. rent from your pre tax salary which leaves you much better off than a manager from oz

Try glassdoor.com - for example, it looks like average Accenture Manager salary in Australia is AU$105k, plus AU$25k in bonus

Totally agree with "j"'s comments. Espcially on the Big 4's pay package. They are slavery firms and squeeze every ounce out of you. Unless you are Director/princal and above levels, you will be slave. They totally under pay...after all they are still a firm of accountants/auditors...thank God I moved out of there after 4 years of slavery into the consulting with a pay jump of >$20k

i know a person who left a big 4 for industry- doing exactly the same work with about 50% pay hike in the process!!! goes to show how badly the intl brand names pay...very significantly below mkt, and yes, they suck the blood out of you also- no one ( unless director level) leaves the office before 9. Most of the ppl i know working there work till 11 pm....and that too for below mkt pay.

Anon, I think you will be better off with IBM/Accenture...more of consulting than those firms more of accounting and auditing......My ersonal take is: accounting/audit firms = count till the very last cent + they give $1 to staff, they expect >100% effort = blood suckers + slavery camp.
