Just looking for some advice from you guys that are far more experienced in consultancy than I am.I finished my PhD some 4 years ago and have worked in technical roles at Pfizer and GSK (Pharma companies). Due to the current climate in the pharma industry I though now would be the time to look at doing consultancy which is something that has always interested me.I applied to Tefen, PwC and E&Y and got a good offer from PwC - PIC CIPS that I could not refuse and am very excited about BUT...I am fully aware of the commitments this job requires in terms of working hours and travel commitments but at the same time I have been told that PwC are very flexible with flexible working. As I am used to the 9-5 jobs and I obviously going into this role a little worried in terms of travel commitments. Can you guys comment here and give me an idea of the progression through the company I can expect in terms of timings, salaries etc.Definately want to make the most of this opportunity as I know the doors that this kind of role can open up but dont want it to destroy my personal life considering I am getting married v soonCHeers!

Tell me about it! I went to interview with PWC, didn't get an offer but in retrospect I doubt I would have taken it even if I had been offered it, simply because I wasn't confident enough that the hours and travel weren't going to be a mickey-take.

I appreciate that travel goes along with any consultancy role, which is why pay is generally better than industry and you get far more exposure to different industries. However, need to ensure that this will not affect my personal life. There are no question marks over the job itself... even the travel really as I m prepared to do it for the long term benefits.Just need to fully understand requirements

> May I ask what they offered you and for what 'level'???I am considering going for the 'executive' level consulting role pic. I hold 3 years consulting exp at a large full service firm.I am also considering an internal consulting role in an industry I would like to specialise in. Internal consulting may be ameans to do so. What do u lot think?

I was originally applying for the consultant level but as I am from industry with no consultancy experience I am going in as an executive at the top of that pay band. Hopefully within a year or 2 ill be in a position to get promoted..Financial package at the moment is not actually any better than what Im on in industry but im hoping for better long term progresion in terms of career and financial package once with pwC
