Hi, I have a decision to make, I work for one of the larger management consultancies and doing well. I am well known for being technically minded and am in demand for technical projects - but recently I have being doing more business centric work, business cases, stategy work etc. I now need to make a decision, before it is to late to make it, as to where to concentrate my efforts. Business work will always be available and generally has a better cache for moving between companies. There is work around for techies but they are generally the doers and not the chiefs.What are people's opinions - do I move towards business or technology, maybe the business of tehnology? Are there any senior techies in managment consultancies out there and do you have any knowledge to pass on?Thanks

IMHO, you&apos;re always best off to do whichever you do best. Assuming you don&apos;t hate it, you&apos;ll be happier as you have a much better chance of being good at what you do, recognised in your field, and establishing a reputation for success that sustains and nourishes your sense of well-being.If you do something that you think you <i>should</i> do, because that is what others prioritise, you&apos;re more likely to struggle, be mediocre at it and feel disappointed in your own capabilities. That is more destructive to your happiness.

Hi TupThats true of course, doing what you&apos;re good at is always more fulfilling, but I can and have worked across both fields of technical and business. I don&apos;t prefer either really, but I am at that point in my career that means I need to start making a choice where to concentrate my efforts.Any thoughts anyone?ThanksWill
