I've been told by many about the glass ceiling in the consulting industry for visible minorities (as for myself, Asian). I am currently a manger working in a strategy firm and would like to become a partner within the next 5 years. Some of my colleagues and mentors have recommended me to further my career back in Asia (either transfer to an Asia office of my current company or work for an Asian based company) as I would have a much bigger chance for promotion. I was born in American and I feel indifferent to the rest around me. Although I possess the necessary language skills, I do prefer to stay. What is your take?

Pure b0ll0cks. I hate people who think if they don’t receive a promotion or get a job its because they are Asian, black, etc.... ……Its because you aren’t good enough and someone is better than you for the promotion/job. Get over it and move on.I’m northern and the ratio of northerns/southerns in consulting is far out weighted by southerns. You know why? Its because more southerns apply for the jobs. Its exactly the same reason there are more white people in Consulting.Stop making excuses and get up off your @rse and work for the job instead of thinking its your god given gift to be given the promotion because you are of an ethnic minority.

Whoa there!there really is discrimination in the world of MC. I have been discriminated against every turn. Why? Because I have a huge fleshpipe! It is soooo unfair. Pure jealousy on the part of the wiener-adorned jocks who make partner.

Actually there is more published positive discrimination against white europeans in areas such as South Africa and London.In America the demographic is close tpo 50/50 and awards are still made for best african scholar etc.Is it cos I is white?
