Guys, need help – can you please be so kind as to advise? Many thanks in advance. So I work in the industry, but would like to move into financial services. 2 options I consider are: financial consultancy and investment banking. Now, some 2 months ago 1 bank was looking for internal strategy consultants. I applied and got no reply so thought unsuccessful. Today however got email with interview invitation. In the meantime (last week) I spoke to one of the recruitment firms and after the interview with them they forwarded my CV to the same bank but for IB position (now waiting for bank's reply). During the interview with the recruitment firm I didn’t mention anything about strategy application to the same bank as I though it’s not valid any more and I was unsuccessful. And now I’m not sure how to handle it. Should I inform any of the parties involved? Or say nothing and wait? The strategy department of the bank seems to be located in the different place than IB part. Please advise what you think.thanks

Dude, dont freak out. You did nothing wrong. In my humble opinion, you really dont have to say anything. Firstly I think you should be sure about which is your first choice in case they want you to choose.Since you are probably talking about a big bank, they might not even realize. Frankly, if they discovered I dont think they will care. They might ask you what happened and you should tell them the truth. Its not something to be embarrassed about, really. You thought you had been rejected because you hadnt heard about them for a while.Take it easy. Also - try to not have to choose until the very end. Just in case, they tell you you have to go for one option, IB for example, and then you get rejected. That way you can move forward with your second choice. (which of course, in from of the interviewing people will always be your very very first choice and so on...)hope this helped

Friday - many many thanks for your opinion. It helps a lot to hear this from the "not involved" perspecive. Please correct me if I'm wrong but you'd suggest pursuing both options (so interview with the strategy and later - if IB is interested - interview also with them). Right?

Correct. Go for both things (unless it is explicitly stated somewhere that you cant which would be pretty weird). You are just hedging your options.Try not to have to choose until the very end in case you are rejected from one post.
