Hello all once again,I love reading these forums.Okay, so i've kinda gathered that there's no point comparing IB to MC, apples and oranges/big bonus to smelly bonus/long hours to having a life/being in the city to...being anywhere?!....anyway..My question will soley concentrate on the BT grauate professional services scheme.I know it's not a big 4 or even a premier boutque but I get a lot of mixed views about this programme/company.Expanding - big - lots of clients (mostly from telecoms side i guess)Life after BT - career prospects? would firms reconginse this programme? what is the merit here?! does it look good on the CV? should i ask for FS projects pr Telecoms projects?! I know telecoms is huge in middle east/even in UK with Vodafone projects in Newbury.Hmmmm.....lots to think about! Views/insight to this scheme/company and life after would be nice!

Well i have two options - JP Morgan Technology programme which involves App Dev/Support/Maybe Business Analysis. on a two year scheme - and this role at BT which is....4 x6 month placements across Management consultancy, Business Improvement and Project Management.I am trying to get onto FS/IB projects although they would be more inclined to technology/IT/networking as that's what BT does.Ultimatly i'm unsure how working for BT in their professional services is going to impact my career.

Let me get this right, you are saying your options are either: a) IT department of a bank, or b) a mix of business consulting activities for BT.I'd go for B.

huh..so simply put!Yes basically it's the IT department of JPM or mixture of stuff with BT.The one thing in the back of my mind is JP Morgan, i think, would be whole better on CV, where as BT....well..i'm not sure how it would be if i had to move on..Wonder if there any EX or Current BT consultants here..

BT all the way. I don't even work in banking and I know that JP Morgan has a polarised business model - IT isn't just back-office, it's back-of-beyond office. Whether you look to the banking or IT industries thereafter, recruiters will also be aware of this fact. There isn't much cachet associated with it.BT is at least a solid brand and even if you get stuck on internal consulting projects you'll get corporate experience and exposure to the business that you won't at JPM.

You make perfect sense in what you've what said, IT is pretty much back office of all back office things. So I guess it's fair to say although recruiters may see that i've joined a reputable banking firm, the role and experience i will get is pretty average.whereas with BT i'll get higher level exposure, more varied work and is at least a known brand.Interesting....this requires a lot of thought! I know a few insiders at BT and JP so i'm trying to get a low down from them all.Any other comments?

BT has an excellent graduate programme. You'll have a lot of fun working in great grad community and the opportunity to shape your own development. Don't be mislead though as the prof services business is unproven. At graduate level this won't have that much impact. It's definitely not a great place to be if you want to be a MC as there's little proper consultancy work like you'd get elsewhere such as the big four or system integrators.

Yup - it does sound fun, interesting and a good bunch of people which sounds great and i'm sure I'll enjoy the work. But you are, i believe, correct - BT is still unproven in Prof Svcs and it does not carry weight. I've asked a few recruiters to give me a lowdown on this. The BT prof scvs doesn't even touch strategy which MBBB/deloitte etc do and are not quite as good as the Technology integrators like IBM/ACN/CG etc etc...Here's a teaser - how would you compare the BT prof Svcs to:ATOS consultingLogicaCMGCSCEDS (got a job offer from them too)
