Hi everyone,I've been offered a job at Deloitte Consulting at Strategy M&A. I would be doing CDD. I would like to have the chance to move to other Strategy projects (the several months ones, rather than the standard 3 weeks CDD). I would basically join CDD to be able to do other Strategy projects. Is that possible within this practice? How would this look within the firm?

By making this post you have flagged yourself as a potential liability to the firm that you are potentially about to join. You must realise that this forum is well observed by all HR practitioners in all the firms that are represented within this forum. If you were genuinely concerned you should have raised this point during your meetings. Good luck.

HR are useless as always

Ignore this comment by HR they are a bunch of wishy washy admin pushers, that havent got a clue what working on a project is. AS if you could really ask at interview - oh by the way can i actually work ina different dept every now and then? what a useless sugesstion HR. Its a fair question and ill give it a fair responseIn my expereince as a Deloitte Strategy Consultant, its usually Strategy analysts and consultants being seconded out onto CDD projects rather than the other way round. Be prepared for gruelling hours and short term projects - but the learning is fantastic and the weight it puts on your CV for future potential is incredible. At Senior Consultant level there are increasing crossover of staff and mixing on projects. Burlington are now a part of CDD in Deloitte and they are great bunch of very bright people to learn from. Good luck

Having finally been able to decipher the post above for all its errors, I still fail to comprehend why the question is misplaced during interview. Clearly, being able to retain talent is about providing people with the right opportunities to grow and learn. More often than not this will mean moving around departments / areas to acquire new skills and develop broader networks. This is something that employers advocate and would welcome. It is ignorant and naive to assume that all employers want to hear is that candidates want to stay within the same business unit for their full tenure with the employer. Given the previous poster's relatively junior position within the firm in question coupled with what is likely to amount to no more than 4 years cumulative work experience, I would not be inclined to pay too much attention to those ill informed views. Best advice is to make further inquiries with the firm and make up your own mind. I'm sure you could even arrange to meet a few of the team over lunch.

Dear 'HR are useless as always',Thanks for your answer. As a person who has done CDD for a while it would be ok to do CDD, but I want to move to Strategy Consulting. Obviously, it would be easier for me to find CDD over there than strategy consulting. One more question, if I may, which industry sectors are in most need of people right now at DC?Thanks a lot for your help. I really appreciate it.

Hello. To 'HR are useless' and other insiders:what about moving from CDD to Strategy? Is that do-able? Do people normally do the move? How flexible are the arrangements? Would I be able to do CDD, then strat, then CDD again and so on?Thank you.
