Can anyone help. Spoke to a guy from Wharton who has recently joined McKinsey. He said the best strategy is to specify only one office location on your application, because it is important to be able to justify the choice of office. The Mck form actually allows you to specify upto 4 locations.I was under the impression that if I listed several choices and said I was flexible wrt location, Mck would be happy as they could post me where they needed to.But the person I spoke to said that even if one office rejected me, I could always apply to another later. I was wondering if this is allowed at Mck? Some people have told me that you can apply as many times as you like, provided you didnot interview with the firm.Whilst others say that if you apply once and are not succesful in the CV screening; you can't try again. Please advise. Also, which offices are the best to work for, and which ones are toughest to get into?

Do whatever represents your true interests the best. If you are only really interested in one office and the others are "second-best" fallbacks then don't bother applying to them as you won't be able to convincingly justify your choice of office and you'll come across as a chancer (throw enough sh1t applications at the wall and hope one sticks). Similarly, if you are really open and interested in a range of offices but only put one on the original application, get rejected and only then ask to be considered for the others, it will appear that you are applying at random.McKinsey does operate a global recruitment system (shared recruitment information across all offices) so you are allowed to take advantage of those four slots. Just be careful that you have a strong sales pitch for each location. You'd usually only use all four slots if you were listing offices in close proximity to each other. If listing locations in separate countries, you'd normally only have a decent case for one or two.

thank you MCKINITE. Your suggestions make a lot of sense. Personally, I am happy to work for McKinsey anywhere in the world. regardless of location. Don't care whether it is US or UK or anywhere as else. Will I sound too confused if I list out choices in 4 locations in different countries? Ofcourse, the offices I would list will reflect some of the industries I want to work in.
