I am an analyst in a financial services company with 9 months experience. I am seriously thinking about moving to leeds at the beginning of next year to move in with my girlfriend, and would then have to find a new job. I know someone who works in ERS (internal audit and risk assessment) for Deloitte, and his job looks pretty interesting. I have a few questions, although any sort of input would be appreciated. Firstly I would like to know if anyone knows if the other big audit/accounting companies have a similar service (which I’m sure they do) and if so, what they are called; and secondly, what the difference between the accounting qualifications are. Now I know that this is not particularly the correct forum for this sort of question, but I’ve been frequenting this site for a while and you lot seem fairly knowledgeable about pretty much everything, so I was guessing that someone must be able to give some form of help. The job in question, as I understand it, would require me to go to company X and interview a few important people about all of the potential risks that their company faces, and then ascertain whether the procedures they have in place are sufficient. Deloitte would also put me through the ACA examinations. I’ve heard that the ACA is much more business related than other accounting qualifications, and teaches you about all areas of a typical company. Is this the case? I have no real desire to be a stereotypical accountant, but I would value the knowledge that the course would give me, and it seems that most people that have done well in financial service industry got an accountancy qualification when they were younger. Please pick as many holes in this as you wish, as I’m in no particular rush to move (I’m in a pretty good job which I enjoy, and the people I work with are great) so I want to know exactly what I’m getting into, and to be sure I made the right choice. Aside from the one where I chuck in a job I already like for a woman. But I guess that’s a decision you can’t really help me with….
