I've been approached for a consultant level role with Capco and wanted to get the inside track before applying. I've heard it's a pretty highly respected consultantcy in FS but have also heard a few things on the downside from people in the banking industry - namely, it's quite cut-throat, very long hours, high level of travel expected. Is anybody in a position to comment on this? Many Thanks.

John - if you try searching for "Capco" using the search box above, there's been quite a few threads in the last months that could be relevant.Tony RestellTop-Consultant.com

Unfortunately for them, Capco's reputation in some of the market dates back a few years now.I have recruited for them for a few years now and their culture is very inclusive and focused on the individual's development. Of course, there are long hours and travel required sometimes, (it's a consulting role, after all) but there are any number of worse offenders out there in the market.

Thanks for that Tim, any information on this is much appreciated. Having been a FS consultant for a number of years i know there's no such thing as a free lunch! i.e. hours/ travel are part of the territory, but i just want to get a handle on how much international travel will be involved and if Capco understands the concept of a worklife balance - having worked for a big 4 in FS i can say that the concept was pretty alien. Any past/ current employee views would be great - i have my first interview round in the pipeline and it would be great to know that i won't be signing up to a sweatshop in god knows where.

If you want to specialise in FS, particularly the capital markets side of things, its probably the best place to be at the moment. The travel can be tough - expect to spend a lot of time in Amsterdam, Paris and Frankfurt. But they appear to have a very humane work/life balance. There is speculation that they are about to snap up a competitor which would significantly increase their numbers in the UK.

I have been with Capco for about 6 months now and can honestly say that in my opinion at least it is a top place to work. They've lost some people as of late but then again it's post bonus time and from what I can see a lot of the leavers are going into industry as opposed to the competition.Yes there is travel involved and at times when on a project some long hours too. If FS is your thing this is a brilliant place to work. FS is all they do, nothing else. From investment to retail banking. Loads of training courses and a real mixed bunch of professional people. They don't hire graduates straight out of Uni so everyone is either from other consultants or industry.ps. I'm not being paid to write this.

Just a thought....before I joined Capco, on the suggestion of their HR lady I was asked if I wished to go for a coffee/beer with someone on a similar level who was with the company to get the "inside track". So if they do make you an offer ask for this too if you're still not sure.
