Dear Sirs,I kindly write to you to request advice regarding the manner and methods by which I will be able to work with headhunters most effectively. I wish to use their services to the fullest extent and therefore require further details regarding the information I should supply, working practices, whether there are any unwritten rules of engagement, what I may and may not reasonably expect, etcetera.Thank you in advice.

Do you mean as a client engaging services of a headhunter or a candidate?

Speaking as a headhunter I don't find jobs for people, I find people for jobs. The best placed person to find the job of your dreams is always yourself.

Dear Mr "A Mars a Day",Thank you for your reply, however I fear you have made some assumptions which have been presented in your wirtten reply with a tone of arrogance. Whilst I will appreciate your assistance, I have in fact already been approached by a Headhunter; it is with this person that I wish to establish a productive relationship. I am seeking the job of my dreams sir, but in order to do this I wish to provide useful support and information to the headhunter so as he can carry out his duties effectively. I await your kind response and further information.Yours sincerely,S P M

Very well. If you have already been approached by a headhunter it will have been for a specific role with a specific client; if they are talking about 'representing you' they are not headhunters. The best way to build a relationship is simply to be honest - we hate surprises late in the process. Also recognise there is no dream job - every role has its upside and compromises (well documented on this board in fact) so be pragmatic. Also, if you could simply pat me on the back occasionally, I will do the same - if we both use our right arms we wont clash, which would ruin the whole mutual congratulatory mood of it.

Why? Because I appreciate someone with a personality and a bit of wit? Mars has more than most of the consultants I know.I also find it hillarious that someone would see the name box on this forum and type in George W Bush.

Cor... she's looking for a showdown alright!! I didn't even realise I was having an "arguement" (especially what with it being my first post and all), let alone being frightened of losing it! Amazing!
