"Best companies to work for"? Pfft... more like "League table of companies that successfully managed to advertise the survey to as many people as possible and also who managed to pressurise their staff into voting for them".

I disagree a little. Whilst the number of respondants is important there is little opportunity to drive the content of their responces.I've worked in industry for a company where we gave the process a go and to be fair we got picked up on the areas we all knew we were failing at.

I saw the surveyKPMG and EY were 2nd and 4th respectively. Banks were 1 and 3. (Goldmans, etc)Sounds therefore like a good piece of research to me.Did not see IBM or Accenture. Maybe they dont enter?A bit scared of the "wrong" result???

Why also in the case of the Big 4 is the 'Best Company' listing more or less in reverse order of the reputation and prestige of the firms?!

Maybe as people have more fun there? I'd imagine the hours are a lot shorter.

student - good point, but why then would goldman sachs and the like rate highly in the other categories? 100 hour weeks aren't fun, and i very much doubt that the £50million bonus guy or his chums bothered voting...

Maybe it's more about a sense of belonging then. If you think about it, this will encompass a lot of the things likely to be in the survey, and would explain why some of the hardcore employers are in there. I suppose it’s what most people want in a job. A sense of belonging must correlate fairly highly with happiness.
