Hi guys, here I am after a while, and again to ask for a piece of information.I am about to sign my first contract ever as a junior consultant with a SC firm. I am not British and I do not know what I should expect in my contract. My concern is: will I get paid when I am sick and cannot get to work (let's say in case of just 1 week, or 1 day, or more than a week)? What does it mean in practice a line in contract that states?: Statutory Sick Pay of one day per month. Should I be concerned?Keep in touchDennis

That doesn't sound right. You are entitled, by law, to statutory sick pay for 28 weeks (don't get too excited -- statutory sick pay is a whopping £70.05 per week). Most employers pay your full salary while you are sick, at least for a period of time. At my previous firm, I was entitled to full pay for the first 6 weeks of illness in a given year, dropping to 25% of my full pay for the next 20 weeks. At my current job, the terms are rather more generous -- I'm entitled to full pay for 26 weeks followed by 50% pay for the next 26 weeks, after which I need to claim against my critical illness insurance.I would go back and double-check with the company. A quick call to the HR department should clear it up.
