Hello everyone,I am a consultant with Deloitte.I have been in the business for one year (entered on level 2 because I had previous one year experience with a well respected multinational). I love my job. Sometimes I even come to work on Saturdays to just read stuff about the industries which I might have touched in my projects.I foresee that, due to my girlfriend (whom I dearly love), I will try to leave the EU country I am working in. This will happen probably around sept 2008, when she will either get accepted in an Ivy League Law School in the States or find something in the UK. Hence, that would be the beginning of my 4th year.Now, I see that most job openings inside my firm are for people on their 5th year of consultancy work. What to do? What would you suggest careerwise? Should I wait for one more year? I guess that the big question here is: When is the right time to leave? Thanks. Any advice vaguely related with this issue are very welcome.M

Alfonso, Its not Deloitte Strategy where I am. I'm within the FAS dept in a team doing consultancy projects rather than anything else- related with commercial strategy.Why do I so like it? I love learning new things. I have a thirst to do so. Co-workers are great (this is a matter of randomness not that HR people are targetting them). I especially enjoy being in the border between theory and practise. The breadth and depth of information available is amazing (as it tends to be in other Big 4). I spent 3-4 months navigating through most of the sources of info here. Now I'm slowly trying to read what I most enjoy.Many of the seasoned consultants here no doubt will think I am a freak. :) (when I come to work on saturdays I say that I am full of work and life is sh*t). Basically, alfonso, just so that u get an idea of how I feel this work is to me: I played the Civilization saga (computer games) and changed the abilities of different types or built up different worlds with the civmap option and then played them through again and again. It feels I am still playing around sometimes (in spite of the 2 weeks of Excel needed before you "build up the game").I understand that many people prefer the safer side of FAS with financial statements and number crunching because it tends to give definitive answers, but my place is with uncertainty and different scenarios.Hope this helps.
