Hello!Just wondering if any1 out there is working for a consultancy that has a good work life balance? An insider view be great. I have looked at websites of companies and they say they have a great work/life balance. Having for a consultancy who has a website like this and I know they dont have a good work life balance - i dont believe the sites!Cheers!

The only consultancy company I know is Deloitte. The attitude of work/life balance is quite good, although it depends on the country you are working in. ;-)Hope this helps!

Atos are pretty good on this score, but they're honest about the realities of working in consulting. If you are in one of our offices, people generally do 9-5 and then head home. All pretty relaxed. It can be a bit different if you are on a project - and projects can take you from home Monday to Friday, it just depends on what the client expects.

I spent several years at Deloitte and found the balance to be pretty poor. So much so that when I moved to Accenture it actually improved.

..is not excellent! Having worked for both Deloitte and PA I hope the poster was joking. The majority of us have to go where the work is- and in 3 years that has been more than 2 hours away from home for all but 5 weeks. And when I did say to a partner that I wanted a job nearer home, he said 'why? Its not like you have a husband or child missing you, is it?'But is consulting the right career choice if you want to run your own hours? We're here to respond to clients' needs, and are usually called in when there is a problem, or major change- neither of which encourage 9-5 working

It depends on what you define as "reasonable balance". My definition is "able to do what adds value to a client and is appreciated by them to the point that we can negotiate what to do in a given timeframe" - this is much more about your ability to develop "business" (either externally with clients, or internally by being in demand and able to pick - to some extent - your assignments) than about the company itself. No matter where you go, there will always be short-term (a few months?) stints where "balance" just does not apply. And some companies are better than others at managing the peaks and throughs. If you want the certainty of a less volatile demand on your time, then don't think of consulting as a long term option.
