I'm thinking of moving out of consulting after about 9 years (big consultancy experience, plenty of project management experience, mainly business process, strategy & implementation work, not heavy IT focused). I am fed up of living away from home (work life balance will never truly exist in my mind) and some of the players within consulting seem to be loosing the plot. I dont want to slow down or anything like that, I am after a new and exciting direction. Anyone got tips on suggested recruitment consultants who do specialise in this kind of thing? Also any tips from people who have moved on?

I am currently in the same position as yourself in looking, after many years of hard consulting grafting, to move into another non-consulting role. Just as a guide I am looking at opportunities within the Investment Banking market. Very similar projects, very similar sized 'branded' companies with similar people, in-house strategic change teams, similar remuneration packages. Speak with Joslin Rowe or Jonathan Wren recruitment consultants in the City.

I'm moving into a blue chip from same level as yourself. Compensation up considerably (min 40%) with much better t&cs and a career path. My experience - going to another consultancy is challenging if you're at the selection for partner grade. The majority of the demand seems to be at the delivery level rather than the relationship/ selling level - so i've found myself somewhat stuck in the middle 'we think you're too experienced/ expensive for principal/ senior manager level and you're not experienced enough/ we don't have the openings for partner entry.' Industry opportunities i've explored have all been interesting and the recruitment process has been much more professional. Packages i've seen have been pretty good and more than comparable with the 2 consulting offers i've had. Best of luck with the search.
