I keen to move in to PMO based work with a consultancy firm. After a handful of applications and only 1 interview, I think I need to add some professional development to my CV.I've got 5 years post-grad experience in engineering and project/programme management (delivery and accountability of programmes) however with a 2:2 degree from a lower uni my academia doesn't carry any significant leverage.I currently work as an engineer leading a team of engineers/designers on development projects for automotive programmes.I've been primarily looking at CIMA progression - I'd need to start at the base due to my background (i.e. non-financial sector based).Do people consider this to be a good grounding to strengthen ones capabilities in targeting PMO based positions?

CIMA is an accountancy qualification (Charted Institute of Management Accountants) - unless you are doing a finance type role, you will not have the experience to become qualified - thus there will be no point in taking the exams. Agreed though - lots of CIMA accountants do make the move into PMO as CIMA is well respected.

Looking at the work involved and having a significant amount of project management in an engineering company, my thoughts were that having CIMA quals would raise my stock somewhat. What other options to "bolster" an application for PMO would be suitable.
