#0 Entry into UK consulting from outside countries

Have 2 years of good experience in Human Capital consulting with a MBA from Monash University. Tried applying for the jobs advertised here since they did not specify that they are just for the UK residents (or those with requisite visa's) but no luck. Questions: 1) Do UK consulting firms typically pick up guys from abroad given that there seems to be demand-supply gap of consultants in UK with all the consulting firms on a hiring binge?2) Probably for the recruitment firms, a 2 year experience person would not fetch that much of money. Does it make sense to apply to the consulting firms site direct? (has someone had success like that)Thanks in advance! would really help me and many others planning to foray into UK consulting market from other countries.

#0 More experience needed to get the visa

I think the key issue here is whether your 2 years of experience would be enough for you to be granted a work visa to work in UK or Europe. These visas are granted to people with skillsets that are in high demand and where employers have been experiencing difficulties fulfilling their needs through hires of European citizens.I'm not at all certain that recruiters would be confident of getting you a work visa with only 2 years' experience, which I think would explain the lack of interest there's been in your candidature.Certainly lots of consultancies hire people through this site who are not EU citizens. To get the work visa recruiters have to demonstrate that they tried and failed to hire a European citizen with the same skills. We are therefore asked to provide recruiters with the proof they need to show the authorities that they did try to attract European candidates by advertising with us - but that the overseas applicant was by far the best candidate for the job......So I know of a number of examples of consultancies hiring overseas candidates through our site and for experienced hires I would say there are many such opportunities (London's consulting offices are full of employees from outside the EU). But as I say, I think your relative lack of experience may mean this is a move you have to make 2-3 years from now...Best of luck, Tony

I agree with Tony!I moved myself to the UK from mainland Europe this Sept. and it was not too difficult with seven years experience for an experienced manager position. 4-6years is good point of time, for you it is rather difficult, UK recruits UK first, then EU (no work permit necessary). Good luck anyway!

Kevin, try to get a work visa through HSMP first. this way you'll have no hassle with the applicationshttp://www.workingintheuk.gov.uk/working_in_the_uk/en/homepage/schemes_and_programmes/hsmp.html?best,Nathalie

Thanks a lot for your detailed reply Tony....really appreciate. Tony do you there is likely to be dearth of HR consulting experience in UK ever given its generalistic nature ?? I mean (even now n later) you find that consultants in the IT or Finance space are highly in demand and scarce in UK or rather gap exists there. Would really appreciate your view on that.Nathalie HSMP is an option but it takes time, lots of effort (to get all the documentation organized) and last but certainly not the least- lots of money.
