I'm looking at what modules to take next year at uni in my business degree. are there any preferences when hiring graduates as to the modules they have taken. also would having a business degree help or hider me when it comes to finding a job?

I have to assume you are talking consulting jobs here. From my experience the modules are very very useful in showing focus to potential employers, both individually and in combination. But, this obviously pre-supposes you have decided where your job focus is going to be. For example if you are thinking of focussing in 'Change Management' area then doing an 'International Finance" module might not help.
