Hi, anyone have any opinons on CG? Specifically their Transformation Consulting practice? I have an offer to join them from industry and although I am keen to get into consulting, I am willing to bide my time and wait for the right offer to come along. I hear from insiders that things aren't all that great at the moment and there is a lot of dissatisfaction with consultants at the moment, due to their being a lack of challenging and diverse opportunities, since most work is in the public sector. Any thoughts? Is this a Cap issue or is this consulting in general?

I've spoken to a few people who have recently moved on and some who are still there. And the consensus points to limited opportunities with blue chip clients, and most work is within the public sector. I've nothing against the public sector but concerned about lack of variety, which most people would agree is one of the main attractions of consulting. Also there seems to be a lot of body-shopping as opposed to consulting and advisory type work. Salaries, bonuses and promotion also seemed to be something that people generally had concerns with. Overall, this type of feedback is concerning and dissappointing from my perspective, given that I struck up a real rapport with all of my interviewers, but I am now having to give serious consideration before making a decision. Thus, if anyone has any other insight then that would be great.

Just in case you don't get the info you need through this forum, why don't you get back in touch with your interview, at the appropriate time and put some of these questions to them. Make sure and establish if these opinions apply to the area that you'll be working in.My personal view is that a lot of the stuff posted on here is true, however, people sometime extrapolate a local/project issue to a firm issue when that isn't aways the case.

Hello - The Trans Practice at CG is not in great shape - I've met a few people there recently and they were all actively looking to leave. A huge proportion of their work is on the Inland Revenue/Customs transfrmation or on NHS projects - up to 70% of their consultants are working on these accounts at any one time. Maybe you should cast your net a bit wider..

I think Mungojerry's post gives an accurate account of the current situation at CG. There is a lot of discontent at the moment, although most of this is coming from people who have been there for a while. What consulting firm doesn't have such discontent amongst their ranks. Most of our work is based in the public sector and it can be a bit demoralising, especially if you have strong desires to work in the private sector (i.e. FS; Oil; Pharmaceuticals etc). There have been a number of leavers recently and I'm afraid that that trend is likely to continue. Look on the bright side, there will be opportunities to grow due to the vacancies that have been created elsewhere.Best of luckCG
