I'm currently finishing a B Economics degree at the University of Sydney... I would love to work for Bain and Company as an associate consultant. How much weight do my grades carry when compared with my practical experience, leadership achievements, business knowledge, and overall passion???(I've won prizes for coming first in final year subjects, but NOT all of my marks are exceptional)I'd love to hear from somebody:)

For an undergraduate, good marks will get you the interview but your passion and other life experiences will get you the job.

Thanks for the advice! My grades suffered while I was working full time as a sales manager with a team of twenty. After I resigned from that position to focus on my studies my grades jumped up to an acceptable level... overall it has affected my GPA though. How could I overcome this hurdle? ...I just need to get in the door...

My understanding is that Bain in Sydney (and the other strategy firms) hires very little undergraduates..I don't know what your marks are in Uni but I would say a distinction/high distinction average would get you an interview. After that, it's really about nailing the case studies....If you want to do management consulting, consider other consulting firms, there's a few boutique ones as well...

I'm completely certain that management consulting is what I want to do. There is no question about that... I'm going to do all I can to get a job with Bain. Have you had much consulting experience in Sydney? I'm wondering if you could recommend any boutique firms, or know of any way I could get a list/information on such companies? Your help would be greatly appreciated:)Thanks 12345!

Why? I have an insatiable appetite for knowledge so a firm that can provide world class training is very important to me. I'm not motivated by a salary; I'm motivated by who I can become by working with such a firm. Perhaps, it's because of their philosophy. I like Bain's focus on implementing solutions as opposed to simply compiling a report or making recommendations. They have established themselves as the leading advisor to the private-equity industry. So they tend to be hired to implement superior strategies which swiftly improve performance. This seems exciting to me... Also they allow associate consultants to have contact with clients and work on more than one case at a time... This is what I am told Out. Of the three firms you mentioned, Nous Group seems the most appealing. Thanks for your help 12345, you’ve opened my eyes to the world outside of the ‘big three’:)
