does anyone know how buoyant the management consulting market is in Scotland? I'm an undergraduate looking to do an internship, and just wondering if I'm likely to be down in London for the rest of my career or not...

Afraid to say most firms have only a patchy presence in Scotland - if they have any presence at all. Think there's a reasonable amount of FS consulting work in Edinburgh. But asides from that we do not know of lots of consulting practices being based in Scotland. But if we're just being ignorant, would certainly love to see posts from anyone consulting in Scotland with details of which firm they're with and where they are based. Tony

Hi thereI agree with Tony - whilst there is some MC activity in Scotland, it is on a very small scale. Have you tried looking at the Institute of Management COnsultants web site - click into Scotland and you will see forthcoming events where you can meet with MC's in Scotland. It tends to be the case that as a MC you will have scotland as a base if working for a large firm but be anywhere in the UK/Europe.

Sorry to say, even if you are based in Scotland, you probably won't work there and if you end up working abroad, your location will mean even more time in 'planes, thanks to BAA's LHR/GWK stranglehold on international flights.
