I have a CV that is quite well received in the US (20+ Yrs Exp, PMI Certified PM, ISO 9000, Cross functional I/T & Mktg, Top MBA, Amex, VoiceStream, J&J, Dial, Wellpoint). However, I submitted the same CV to the Top-Consultants bulletin board and several job postings and I have not received even 1 response. Is there a general lack of interest in candidates from the states or are the standards substantially higher in UK than the US?

Hi Carolyn. Sorry you haven't received a particularly rapturous welcome by UK recruiters. A lot of recruiters are a bit hesitant about hiring people without UK work experience, particularly at senior levels. In consulting, having a strong network of industry contacts is essential, and with a history of working in the States they might be making the assumption (rightly or wrongly) that you won't be able to bring that to the table. There might also be some concerns around cultural fit - as much as we like to pretend otherwise, doing business in the UK and doing business in the US are very different things... Perhaps a good headhunter will be able to help frame your CV for the UK market??? Also, check that you are being clear about your eligibility to work in the UK marketplace. I often reject foreign nationals who don't assure me that they have unlimited rights to work in the UK. best wishes, RecruitGal
