What do consultant's get paid at the top of their game? i.e partner level/director, SVP etc? Is it in the region fo the accountants etc...(average PWC partner salary last year was £511,000) or less/more etc..?Basically I am choosing a career path and wondered where i could be at various stages of my life, (30/40/retired etc..) assuming I am successful and if the money on consultancy compensates for the inevitable times when you are not going to want to be working away from home etc...Can any of you consultants out there shed some light on figures for say, Deloitte, CG, IBM etc... and your opinions on teh money side of things vs work/life balance? Thanks

The average salary at Deloitte for partners last year was 700k. This might be a bit higher than average because they are privately owned. However, if is money that is motivating you, like one gets the drift from your reasoning, dont chose this career path. It is too demanding to base it on salary. Do something you love, the money will follow. And if it doesnt, at least youll be happy.

Matt has some wise words - Believe him and me when we say that Consulting is demanding. If you are really after money then become a Investment Banker. They work on average a 60 - 65 hour week and that is the norm.

I am sure Matt can tell you how much these guys earn and how much their bonuses are!!
