Hiya, does anyone know if Deloitte and CapGemini offer sign on bonuses to experienced hires (if so, how much?) or is it something firms only offer to grads? Cheers

They'll do it if they really want you! How much depends on your level...

Are there any negative consequences of asking for a sign-on bonus (particular directed at recruiters out there)? If not then you should always ask at least!

I am a recent experienced hire (10+ years) of IBM BCS and was flat out rejected for a sign-on bonus when I inquired. Was told they don't offer sign-on bonuses and the salary/grade level should be enough of an incentive to join....Was I taken for a ride or what?!

Not really a downside to asking, but you need to be sure that they are very, very keen to have you! And I wouldn't ask for a sign on bonus outright (just seems a bit rude) - just jostle for an increase in salary and they'll ususally say either (1) No chance (2) Increase the salary or (3) Keep the salary the same but offer a sign on. It all depends on how essential you are to their business plans going forward...

Say they offered you £55k basic salary and "really want you". What sign-on bonus could you ask for? £5k? £10k? Or am I hoping for too much?

PA will typically pay a 10% basic joining bonus (usually in shares) if you ask them. There’s no real incentive to push for a higher basic salary, as that impacts the amount that they will charge you out to clients.
