I have a final round assessment centre coming up for the Management Consultancy arm of Cap and wondered if anyone has recently been through it or has any insights into the format of the day and interviews etc. I'm assuming you can apply for the position with any degree so not a huge amount of 'business knowledge' is required for the case study?Any advice would be much appreciated, Thanks in advanceC

Hi, I attended the assessment centre successully a few months ago. The case study was mostly common sense, but there were quite a few figures involved. I think the fact that I played with the figures a bit and tried to use them to support my argument stood me in good stead; other candidates were giving me funny looks for using the calculator. There was a team exercise in the morning which was actually quite fun - just lateral thinking basically, the usual tests, and an interview, which consisted of running thru my CV and a bit about how you'd keep a client on board in the course of a project. Can't really think of much else, hope this helps and best of luck.

Thanks for your help, much appreciated. Would you mind going into a bit more detail about the figures side of things-were they an extension of the pre-prepared case study that we have been given? I guess they must be generic enough to apply to various recommendations that might arise from the presentation if they are?

I wasn't given any material in advance, what happenned was we were given a file of about 15 bits of paper detailing the case and the previous work that had been done on it as a starting point. Much of this was data-gathering, and was incomplete, so it was up to us to get what we could out of them (e.g. convert #incidents/month to #years/incident) to provide a basis for comparison for different aspects of the case and support arguments. It sounds like your workshop might have a different format to mine, but in any event, I guess showing you're capable of giving your report a numerate edge can't be a bad thing.

I have a case study to prepare for the day-a theoretical postal service change management scenario with no data to analyse per se. I take it you didn't have this case and were given a more traditional assessment of market sizing etc..?

Hi Cuncika, I have been offered a position at Cap so here goes the format of the day (hope it helps)!!Verbal reasoning test-simple if you get some practise beforehandGroup exercise-limited time to draw conclusions on information-look to include everyone and drive the decision-making process.Case study-preparad earlier and partnered with an interview, you have to justify your decisions and handle a few consultancy questions like, 'how would you keep a client on board etc..if they thought you weren't delivering.'Is a quick process and fairly informal, I quiet enjoyed it so good luck, hope to see you soon, Cap
