People just wondering. Correct me if im wrong. Average salary at deloitte consulting for partners last year was 700k. PLc companies like ACN were around 400k. Pure strat houses kinsey's bain etc sometime even pay 1M. Why do we, consultants, then keep complaining about our salaries? Has the profession lost its essence, its purity and passion for strategy and innovation? Opinions welcomed

Check out this month's Management Consultancy magazine (www.managementconsultancy.co.uk). The salary survey is out. Truth be told, we don't get all that well paid at all !

From the survey, given it talks about averages, that generally means a skew from a relatively small number of people earn significantly more than the average, and a lot more people who earn less! I have to say, I'm a little shocked by the averages, seemed low to me, but them either I'm fortunate, or have lost touch with reality! ;o> I also find it hard to fathom how senior consultants/managers etc maybe earn 60 to 100k, then a step up to partner earns 700k, with seemingly nothing in between. Obviously you have to put something in to get something out (in terms of partnership), but theres got to be division heads etc making circa 150k, or rainmakers making similar, maybe more.... surely.....please, give me something to hang my hopes on - haha!

There certainly are at Accenture where snr managers start at 100k but can earn anything up to 200k. Likewise Associate Partners (can't bring myself to use the new terminology) earn around 200k. I would imagine other (large) firms are similar.
