Am currently looking to leave you know who, and have registered with a load of Recruitment consultants in London, but while they all talk a good game, they’ve come up with totally inappropriate roles for me. Who should I register with than’s any good ?

Signing up with 'loads' of recruitment consultants is a pretty bad idea. Most of them are cowboys who are more interested in making a sale by bombarding you with in appropriate jobs and us with inappropriate CVs. I would suggest working with one with a strong specialism in your particular field, who understands the consulting marketplace and who works with the kind of firms you want to target. Once you've identified them, you have to put some work in to make sure they truly understand the role you're looking for. If you let me know your specialism, I'll happily give you a couple of names that might be useful. Or even better - apply directly to the firms you want to join.

Oh, and beware any agency that doesn't want to meet you. If you are just a name on a CV to them, how invested do you think they are going to be, and how well do you think they can 'sell' you to potential employers based on a 10 minute phone call. If you are going to use an agency, make them earn their fee. (Sorry for my grumpiness - today is proving the wrong day mention agencies to me... bah!)

#0 Question to RecruitGal

Eeby

Sorry to jump on Sandy's question, but RecRuitGal I would appreciate similar advice. I am looking for positions in the healthcare/life science/pharam space. I am an experienced consultants but to a combination of R&D, commercial and consultancy backgrounds often find that agenies (and sometimes companies) do not 'get me'. Any advice on the same as previous post would be appreciated. Many thanks Eeby

Tough one - there aren't many agencies that REALLY specialise in this field - but there are a couple of good ones who have a presence in this field and are worth a look - BLT and The Shilston Partnership. I get consistently excellent feedback from candidates about them and the level of candidate care. If you are more focused on healthcare / NHS, then you might also want to look at Newchurch. Either way, these companies should take the time to help you shape your CV and 'package' yourself to help prospective employers "get" what you are about. Good luck!

I agree, EM are very good. Avoid BLT though, despite being voted the best, I have found them to be totally appalling.
