Just about getting ready for a change - I was 8 years at Accenture then 3 years at a smaller company and it's time to base myself in Scotland. I've been talking to IBM amongst others, and I'm happy enough with their model of basing myself pretty much wherever I like on the grounds that I'll be client-site working anyway, but I've got a couple of questions:- Anyone who's worked for IBM & Accenture have any thoughts on the similarities / differences / good bits / bad bits?- How do they pay relative to the marketplace? I know the payscales for a lot of organisations as I do a fair bit of recruiting, so let's assume a spectrum from Logica to Accenture - where do IBM sit? I don't want to underprice myself (not least because I'm underpaid at the moment, which is one of the reasons for moving)- Anything I've missed...? I've done a fair bit of research myself but would be interested in any other thoughts. Many thanks in advance.mrx

I think they come below ACN but def above Logica, as i think you have indicated. I dont think they rival Deloitte or ACN but they are more about in line with CG and PA. If you take graduate starting salaries as a further indication this is further reinforced, with the actual order including sign on fees etc looking like ACN-DELOITTE-CG/PA. However this changes with your experience too. I know that PA offer better bonuses at higher levels than almost every other org of its kind, but this may be to compensate for its rather lower base salary. There are quite a few posts here about starting salaries etc that are unfortunately aimed at new grads but i guess they can give you an indication. Best of luck with everything!

Why would you want to join IBM, when all the best people have left already ? It's really got a terrible atmosphere here, I can tell you from painful personal experience. If you want someone with a strong presence in your local area, why not try Deloitte?

IBM & Accenture

Hi Mr X, I have worked for IBM Business Consulting Services and Accenture, and have maintained contact with people at both organizations. Pay is better at Accenture, and since the buy out of PwC Consulting by IBM morale at BCS has only gone one way - and it's not up. However, in my experience there were less egos at BCS - this was important to me. As ever, you need to ask yourself what you want - if being based in Scotland it the primary driver, BCS can provide this.
