My partner currently works for one of the higher profile consultancies at the moment. I'm looking at moving out of my current field in the near future and into consulting but I'm curious about any generic policies in the upper tier over recruiting the partner of a current staff member. Is it something that's avoided, or are firms generally reasonably sanguine about it?TIA

maybe.... It's certainly more usual to wait until you've joined before coupling up! *That* happens all the time.... ;-)

Spot on Cartesian, clearly dont say anything about being a couple as this will more than likely restrict your chance, and MOST DEFINETLY not help you!!!! Hold it down and you should be fine. Although working in the same firm may not be bubbly!!! I know i certainly wouldnt want to work with my girl and live with her too. Sure fire strategy for divorce or a break up! Although best of luck!

From experience, it's not an issue. In fact it actually helped me secure an offer, since through her recommendation I got an interview and then thereafter it was down to the individual. There are so many couples in consulting firms, so why would this be an issue. In the end I decide to opt for a different firm, given the likelihood of constant arguments etc. Also she would've been my boss! Again! We met when we were at a previous consulting firm! This is why we should get out more and meet other people. Then again, when you're still in the office at 8:30pm on a Fri its no wonder that you don't meet other people! Time to head off to the pub!

I worked on the Ministry of Defence for IBM for many years. Many of the married partners and assoc partners there seemed to couple up with the bright young things there very often. The sad part is that it was usually the young ladies who ended up leaving when it came out into the public domain. The partners and associated partners not only got off scott free, but some of the worst culprits even got on the New Years honours list...
