I think it really depends on your clients' (and firm's) expectations, but the main thing is to make sure you don't inadvertently undermine your credibility by appearing to be unprofessional or inexperienced. A related consideration would be which choice would make you feel more confident?

Depends really. is it subtle or like a joker? Will male colleagues be distracted by your ravishing beauty? D you think it will affect your performance? Will it help you get business? Kinder performance reviews?....Im joking of course... why not ask your firm...if your not with a firm why not email potential firms to get their take on the situation. I would presume as long as you dont look overtly ugly, tired looking or unprofessional with or without make up you should be fine!

Thanks. From your experience, do women usually wear lipstick or not?

OK, I just did a quick walk around the office (trying not to look too weird...): seven women are in, three or four appeared to be wearing no make-up, the others had mainly foundation and perhaps a light blusher. Only one seemed to be wearing lipstick, and that was a subtle pink. No obvious trends by seniority, although the lipstick wearer was the smartest dressed and had had a major client meeting earlier on. So I'd say go with what you're most comfortable with.

But looking your best, can be inappropriate for a professional environment. I mean it is possible to overdo make up. I think if its subtle its fine, anything thats stands out, causes a second glance or makes you look like the joker from Batman is not appropriate! lthough I do wish i saw more leg at work to brighten up my days!

Maria, You do not work (yet) in consltancy, do you? Most women here look terrible. Many of them try to behave as males and are way to formal. Good looking girls go to journalism or the like..!!!!

What firms are you looking to apply to? I think most are fairly relaxed in terms of make up. As most have said usually your gut feeling is correct. If in doubt a little less is always a safe bet...

querida Maria, I could see you were Latin because I had a typical spelling Spanish speaker mistake, make up (e instate of a, I do it all the time :) ) and yes we (I am Latin too) are a bit more concern about how we look. I am a psychologist and when I read the msg of this forum I can’t avoid looking at issues that come up as: gender, cultural background, self-esteem and so on...What kind of consultancy do you do? Saludos nena!
