Right, my bubble has been burst recently. Looking at packages and benefits of firms for graduates ive come to the conclusion that they are not bad, but have also heard graduates rarely get bonuses for hard work...will this not lead to coasting or within someone performing within themselves? Also can someone explain to me what a season ticket loan is and whether its really a bonus/benefit, or a backhanded way of 'giving' a benefit. Is it a travel allowance and if so why is it called a loan? Sorry if these questions sound stupid. Cheers

1. I doubt that most of the consultants I know are really motivated to excel by a 10-15% (or even 30%) bonus, which is generally handed out on the basis of fairly fuzzy/elastic criteria (note: I am not saying unfair or irrelevant!). The real motivators are personal growth, satisfaction at adding value to a client and making things change for the better.2. Generally, in the first few years of work, the differential contribution that one can give is relatively limited and may be difficult to assess (I don't mean one is valueless; I mean one's contribution relative to the average person performing that role). Back to the fairness point - and think what it means to do a review like that for 1,000+ staff...A season ticket loan is just that. It's a reduced rate (sometimes 0% + tax compensation on the benefit you are deemed to receive) loan that allows someone to pay for a £3,000+ yearly ticket in one go without killing your cashflow. It's a real benefit, especially if you are on a long-distance commute, although of course it's of less cost to the firm than paying your travel outright (i.e. a travel allowance)."There is no such thing as a stupid question. There are only stupid answers" (anonymous)
