I've just been invited for a 1st interview at a consultancy - part of this is to make a presentation about "Project Management" with no specific details as to what to include.Other than it has to impress them....MMmmmmmmm(?)My background is Automotive Engineering Project Management but wondered if there was any specifics that a Consultancy would look for.

Without any further info, you need to hit the textbooks. If you know nothing about project management, go and buy a basic guide. They'll be looking for an appreciation that you understand the basic factors - structure, stakeholders, communications, timeframes, risk assessment, etc. If you can show that you have considered these sorts of elements then I am sure you'll be fine.

In addition to the factors mentioned by C'est Bon, stress the need for the tracking of business case benefits. Think where the project fits within the organisation and how you would transition from project organisation to business as usual e.g. knowledge transfer - full project life cycle. Also, as suggested, discuss the links to other projects that would show your understanding of Programme Management. If you want to think even bigger go for Portfolio Management and how your projects and programmes map against the strategic direction of the business.

Cheers, that's good advice. My current role is essentially project planning for engineering programmes (12 months to 3 years) so will pick up this. The firm keep broaching the thorny topic of money, which I'm not 100% comfortable with. Any tips, I roughly know what I'd move for but not wanting to under value myself also?

Give them a range, rather than a specific figure... If you are looking for £60k, tell them you are looking for something in the region of £60-70k. If they really like you, they'll probably offer in the middle of the range.

Thanks for the direction, what do you reckon the market rate is at present - the role is "Project Manager", which to my mind says very little about the role itself.
