Conundrum: I got that job with one of the MBB’s that I always wanted (outside the UK). They are waiting for me to finish my graduate studies, and then I can go and work in the upper echelons of strategy consultancy, and I’m really looking forward to starting! But then a while ago I started a company with a friend (I know, I know, I should be focusing on my thesis, don’t tell my supervisor). It’s looking great, we are getting angel funding and grants, and it’s all quite exciting. The question is this: how long will the MBB wait for me? I already got my offer several months ago, and they are already waiting for me until November at this point. However is it not in their best interest to have me learn as an entrepreneur, and then let me start? I don’t think I want to stay with the start-up for more than a year. Is there a best way to approach them about this? I will of course be open with them, but it would be great to get some feedback as to what I should expect. Thanks!
