I have with interest the messages & response-lots of good advice, perhaps you can help me?Open University Management Qualifications & MBA, 20+ years experience in financial services, with too many employment changes in recent years inc. redundancy, I now understand that I need change as a stimulus, a constant challenge to keep me interested & motivatedNow the bad news-age 47...20 years too many? - still keen to learn & highly motivatedHas anybody been there before & successfully converted to consultancy-ideally in a salaried position?

For someone of your experience level, most consultancies would want you for your network, so a move into many firms is still a possibility. The other option is to go freelance. Given your experience, you're likely to be in big demand by clients, who would rather pay £5-500 per day direct to you, rather than 2 or 3 times that to ACN or IBM for a pimply faced graduate

I completely agree with Choosy. He/she is completely right. I left Andersens and set up on my own and it was the best move I ever made. Challenging work I can pick and choose and I can adapt and take on the proejcts I really fancy. Very stimulating. Good luck.

You might find going freelance a bit risky unless you have paid off the mortgage and the kids are self funding. I'm 44 and started my consulting career in financial services at the age of 39 having just finished the OU MBA. If you have a good contact list and have done change orientated work in FS most consultancies would bit your arm off. Capgemini certainly would

Thanks for the positive feedback, still undecided which direction to take but you have given me more confidence for when I make my move, thanks-Dave
