The best advice is to research around the MD you are meeting. Where have they come from, how long have they been there, do they have a specialist area they consulted in? Generally I would prepare my candidates by doing this research for them. Make sure you are clear on the benefit you will bring the consultancy, it is a major issue with many of the smaller consultancies that consultants will be revenue generating. If you have a good contacts network, say so, if you are an excellent delivery consultant , say so! If it is possible to find out why others have been rejected, if they have, it would be incrediably useful for your pitch. Going back to the MD, at the minimum you would be wise to find out their personality, style of speech and manner. A quick call to the office staff and a bit of charm will get you those little gems- these will help you concentrate on the questions rather than worrying about the interviewer! In terms of what to expect, I would say anything. Having done all the preparation I have mentioned you chould have a clearer idea of the style the MD will use. It is always a good idea to brush up on the project work detailed in your CV as most senior level interviews revolve around CV, personality and contacts or business development. This is by no means eveything and I am sure others will have different opinions but it is the key parts for me. Good luck!
