I am being constantly told to get an accountancy qualification as being professionally qualified will open a host of doors to me but the thought of tax and book keeping is boring the hell out of me. My question is, where do you grad consultants see yourself ina few years time? With no prof qual. etc, do you see yourslef being tied down to consultancy etc or will you look to get out of the travelling syndrome that makes so many consultants leave the industry and find yourself jobs in industry etc? If so, doing what?Cheers in advance

Hey there. I hear where your coming from, ive often been told the same thing. I have secured a grad position with PA. To be honest, for me im looking to gain as much experience as possible in about 4-5 years and then hopefully do an MBA. This will also open doors, mayb not as much as a prof qualification tho. Also im considering doing the CIMA, which is much like the ACA accountants do but more management based, and that will def open doors im told. I do plan to go into indutsry to for a bit too. My preference is the energy sector. I know this isnt much but hope it helps!

Hi. Just read your email and thought I'd offer some suggestions. Firstly, I've been in Tax for about 5 years and I'm a qualified Acccountant and a Chartered Tax Advisor. So why am I on this website - well its quite simple; "boring" is the real answer. These kinds of qualifications are great and yes they will get you to finance director however I recon you should milk the experience as a consultant and then maybe look at the MBA. If you are set in your ways and would like a accounting qualification then I would highly suggest the ACCA. My reasons are quite fair. 1. Its a worldwide reconised qualification 2. Its focuses are not just accountancy - there are some Strategy modules3. The student body is international unlike CIMA and ACA - they are UK based qualifications...I'm seriously considering doing an MBA as I've score 757 on my GMAT and hopefully it should help me lunch into strategy!!Hope i didn't bore you too much.

How did you manage to score 757? The GMAT scores are scaled in units of 10.
