Help, I need some advice.I currently working as an Engineer since leaving Uni nearly 5 years ago and want to move over to Project Consultancy. My experiences in Engineering over the past years have been very high pressure and working quickly on global project to resolve problems etc. Only issue is that I think I'm kind of snubbed for coming from an Engineering background rather that finance or commerce.Any advice would be appreciated?

Being in a similar situation, I would like to echo this. It seems to me that the only solution is to do a postgrad course; either an MBA or professional accounting/marketing/IT qualification.

Not true guys. I studied Engineering for 5 years, BEng (Hons) and MSc, worked for an Automotive and Aerospace business for 2.5 years on their Graduate Programme. I then left, over 4 years ago, to join Deloitte's Strategy & Operations area. I do acknowledge the fact that my Grad Programme included 6 months in corporate strategy and 6 months working in a customer services department helped the transition. However, take a look at firms that offer supply chain, new product/innovation or large scale programme management services as these play nicely to the "engineering skill set".

Cheers, thats good advice.I'm just not 100% on how I relay my skill set over to a non-industry related employer with a bias to my project and supply chain work without detailing items which a prospective employer would overlook.Whilst I've not really been involved in developing strategy at any corporate level, I've been involved in strategising new customer approaches etc.

I think the best bet is to emphasise the fact that have delivered complex projects and programmes of work. Highlight the skills you have gained in project management, planning, business case development and benefit management. In addition, where you have implemented any process or system improvements bring these out in your CV. These are skills that would definately interest a consultancy firm.

Cheers for that, am currently grafting on CV.I've delivered some bread and butter projects and some "diversified" re; never stop changing without information being shared projects for 5 top auto OEMs so will pick up on this more.

We are always looking for graduates with good engineering experience for our clients who are specialist process improvement consultancies. Please get in touch with Fiona Patterson, fp@kilsav.com, and good luck.
