Hello, I am a recent graduate and I am about to start the Navigator (graduate internship) scheme in september. I was wondering if anyone could tell me if it is possible to move from general acn consulting roles to the strategy group, and how is it possible to do this. What key attributes would you say that a strategy consultant has that makes them different to the other techie or business consultants, and what attributes are recruiters looking for in that third interview that is required for the strategy applicants? Any help would be much appreciated. Francis.

I know a number of people that have moved from non-strat service lines in to strategy. The key thing is to get scheduled onto projects which have a strong strat component where you interact and work with strat people. This then gives you the possibility of working on strat projects and then move across.Your best bet is to apply for it straight off. There is no risk in doing this as if you unsuccessful in the third round you would be put in the general consulting intake. In terms of attributes ands skill - clearly you need engaged with the sources of value and business impacts of the work we do. There is stuff on our website about this.I would also like to dispel the myth that anyone not in Strats is automatically a coding monkey. To be sure, there are are alot of people on the tech side of things. However there are alot of us engaged with business process work, operating model design etc. etc. which is not technology focused and who are not in strats.

...go to a real strategy consulting company. At acn apply for strat area straight away. If you want to do strategy and don't get in do not expect to transfer into strategy within 2-3 years.
