I've just heard that IBM have stopped recruiting. Does anyone know anything about this? Is it across the whole of their consulting business?

I would doubt it. IBM's staff attrition rate is so high, that they couldn't afford to stop recruitment. Otherwise, the organisation would shrink rapidly. Very few of the same people that joined with me 18 months ago are still here. I'm looking arould too.

Can I ask you why you think this attrition is occurring ie. is it a function of the current job market or are things going wrong at IBM?Is it accross both the old IBM services world and Businss Consulting? What are your personal motivations for wanting to move on?I am sure we would all value your insights

Morale is very low in BCS, but I don't know about the rest of Global Services. Most of the BCS jobs are huge public sector contracts, where its impossible to get off once you're on. There is little consideration given to what the consultant themselves want, and staff are just shoved onto jobs. The much vaunted pay rises and training spend of Summer last year turned out to be a damp squib. Since then, staff have been looking out to an increasingly vibrant external market. The quality of the new hires is also very mixed: some are great people, but most aren't.
