What is Accenture Technology Services (ATS) and how do they DIFFER from other operating groups such as 'Consulting' within Accenture world.... also, what type of work would a typical ATS Manager do in Banking? Cheers.

ATS is another name for the solutions workforce. They are totally separate to consulting - compared to consulting the work is far more technical, less client facing and career progression is not expected to be as fast. A role (in any sector) like likely to involve coding or configuring a system.

I'm sure it's possible to move from ATS to consulting, but it's not an easy way in - any internal transfer is treated the same as an external application for consulting (though the plus side is that there are people in the firm who know what you're actually capable of).Big ATS projects are the same as the big consulting projects, as the two workforces work alongside each other.

The above message is right in saying there is not an easy way to transfer to Consulting, but it's actually a lot harder than an external application. You have to have been at ATS at least 18 months, consistantly get A/A+ rating, and have been promoted to even be allowed to apply to transfer. Then you have to convince your HR Rep and HR lead you are 'suitable' for a transfer, which could take many months and there's a good chance of you being refused at this stage. Then go through the same interviews and process and an external hire. And even should you pass the interviews with flying colours the transfer still has to be approved to the head of ATS who may reject the transfer if you are 'more suitable to ATS'. And should a transfer be successful and only a couple out of many attempts have been you are still likely to be offered a lower salary / career level than if you'd been in Consulting the whole time doing the same work and getting equivalent ratings.
