ACA or CIMA?

#0 ACA or CIMA?

Hi, I have recently graduated and wish to pursue a career in consulting, but have so far been unsuccessful with my applications. I am now considering alternative paths into the industry and would like some advice on the best way forward. The two options I am seriously considering are 1) working in Audit/Assurance (probably with a non-big 4 firm) and studying towards the ACA/ACCA qualification, or, 2) working in finance for a blue chip company and studying towards CIMA. Which path would best increase my employability within the consulting industry, either in the next 1 to 2 years, or post qualification, in terms of both experience and credibility/suitability of the qualification? Ideally I would like to be involved in strategy, but not necessarily with a pure strategy firm. Thank you in advance for any advice

Hello. I think both options will stand you in good stead. If I had to pick one, I'd go for the Blue Chip company. Some solid operational experience would be very valuable, and may give you more credibility with potential clients. If I were you, I'd pick the option I think I'd enjoy the most... Good luck.

Thank you for the advice, I think the CIMA would definately be more enjoyable. One other question - If I were to go down the accountancy route, how does ACCA compare with ACA in terms of credibility? I know the ACA is more prestigious, but to what extent (in the eyes of potential employers/clients)?

to your original question, if you would like to end up in consultancy then it's also important to consider the 'brands' you will put on your CV. If you would do ACA outside the big 4 then CIMA for a blue chip would be better.
