Hello,Could anyone please give me some advice on the best route into Management Consulting? Having applied to a range of consultant jobs and consultancies I'm re-thinking my approach as I don't have the years of consulting experience they're looking for.I'm past the graduate level with 5 years IT experience. I've delivered IT outsourcing projects which means project managing people, process and technology change. The front end, strategic visioning which then leads to programmes of change is where I can add the most value - with some training and guidance! I realise all experience is valid but there must be a more direct route than the yellow brick road....I'm appealing to your collective years of experience please! Thanks loads.

Perhaps Simon you need to find a mid tier consulting firm to pitch your expertise too. I'm not sure if your just concentrating at the top end, but a mid-tier firm may give you the few years grounding you need to walk into a major consulting player. When you pitch to these firms make sure you concentrate on your ability to deliver an outcome. Your understanding of risk/reward and accountability. Our industry is moving slowly towards a level of accountability that is much greater than we have ever seen before.!Good luck with your searchMark

Thanks Mark, I'm looking at all ends of the spectrum. Sounds like a great way to pitch the skills I have got, in a message that means something to the consultancies. The strength of implied needs aren't always obvious to a fresh face on the scene!
