I am seriously thinking of joining a start up company specialised in providing added value, bespoke services in the field of strategy – positioning – analysis in a high growth market. I am aware of the fact that start-ups are risky options, but I also know that if they succeed the rewards could be huge and, if you join at a very early stage, you also get involved with or gain exposure to pretty much everything including company strategy, management, sales and marketing, product development, operations etc.

With the view of building a career in management consulting and taking into consideration that I am too senior to get a graduate position with an established firm and too junior to join as an experienced consultant, would joining a start-up give me some sell-able experience and be perceived as a good move?
