Hi,I currently work in India and have about 10 years of Big 5 strategy consulting as well as implementation experience (org design, performance improvement, PMO, etc.)... also have a natural right to work in the UK.Need some advise on the best mode of securing a job in the UK? Do online applications work in securing this ? I am rather worried about giving it all up here and landing there in the cold looking for a suitable employment...What timeline should one expect for the selection cycle in consulting firms there - 1 month / more?

Hello. Sounds like you have some solid experience under your belt, and most consulting firms are recruiting at the moment, so you shouldn't have too many problems securing a new role. The best way of applying is normally direct - straight through the websites of the orgs you are targeting. However, given your current location, it might be more effective to sign up with an agency, who can give you a good idea of timescales at each firm, and co-ordinate interviews so that you can arrange to come over for a week or two to attend interviews. My firm turns their recruitment cycle around very quickly - normally within 2-3 weeks of receiving an application. I know that others can take much longer, so it's a tricky one to judge. Also - it sounds a bit harsh, but I would suggest that you don't use your Indian address on your CV - some recruiters will automatically screen you out if you live on the other side of the planet... Use a UK address if at all possible. And good luck!

That's useful advise Recruitgal...really apreciate. Could you suggest some agencies I can sign up with for managing the pre-visit coordination of interviews and help me make this transition as smooth as possible. Also can I send u across my resume to you for a possible opening at your firm? Please let me know where i can send this. If not on the forum, you could email me your details where I can send u the application and get in touch...my email ID is strat_consultant@yahoo.com. Many thanks once again and look forward to your response.

No problem. I personally like BLT - as do many of Top Consultant's readers (they voted for BLT as the agency No 1 last year). Other suggestions would be Woodhurst, Prism, and Hudson, but it may depend on what your "speciality" is. You're welcome to apply to my firm - I won't mention which one it is (because I try to be as neutral as possible on this site!), but I'll send you the details via your email address...

Recruitgal, you seem to have a lot of knowledge on the inner workings of consulting. How long have you been in consulting?
