Hello,I would be grateful for alladvise on how a 38 year old can move into management consulting. I have fifteen years work experience, the last six in telecoms at two major international players. I have also managed international teams. What I need advise on is the following:1. How should I position myself (given the search is mainly for graduates from top universities)?2. At what level should I am for (senior consultant or manager position)?3. Do the big names (McK, Bain, Boston, Accenture, CapG, ATK or Booz Allen etc) go for experienced people like me? Would I be better off targeting smaller players?Appreciate all advise, esp from people based in France (as that's where I am looking).SG

Hi SG,I did exactly as you did. I am 37 and 1 year into my career with Capgemini. There is always a market for people with experience and your profile suggests that you would be of significant interest to CG. You have to identify where you would position yourself in these consultancies (e.g Telecomms) as they operate with specific service lines and focus on your strength and depth of experience in this area but not to the exclusion of other possibilities such as Supply Chain. I would suggest that you are about senior level and should expect to make MC in 2 years after some decent assignments to build up your consulting skills. Good luck and don't be shy about applying.
