Hi people. Just wondering what peoples opinions are on accenture as opposed to deloitte consulting. Which one is best for graduates to start? Which one offers better career progression and opportunities?

Deloitte for sure. At Accenture you're just code-crunching employee number 34133. At Deloitte, the interaction is more personal and enjoyable, where partners take the time to learn about you and your background/interests(in most cases).

I considered both Deloitte and Accenture almost 4 years ago, and I chose Deloitte and I have never looked back. I have worked on a few joint venture projects with Accenture, and while both have similarities, I consider Deloitte to be the more people focused and the best firm to start your career with – Good luck

Sorry J, dont mean to confuse you but I am afraid I don't quite agree with the rest. I joined ACN about 6 months ago as Experienced Hire from Deloitte and I think that ACN is far more integrated than Deloitte. Working on global projects is much more easier over here than it was there. In terms of training etc, too, I found ACN ahead of Deloitte. Not that I found anything wrong with Deloitte but after seeing both sides, I would prefer ACN over Deloitte. I guess in the Biggies, a lot also depends on which team you end up with. Hope this helps. Good luck!!

Hi,I left ACN for Deloitte (yes ACN for Deloitte) and I can tell you that you should pick ACN. Deloitte training is just not structured enough. ACN have the best training package.
In general ACN pay more (at all levels). Deloitte has more of a personal touch but parts of ACN have that too.
The nature and size of ACN projects means you build a wider range of skills. People in Deloitte talk a good game but they cannot deliver for love or money.
If you are technical and love technology then go to ACN. If you are not keen on technology then make sure you aim for the right division in ACN.
I know it weird that I am not promoting my current employers but I know what I would do in your position.
How clear do you want us to be? Previous post was pretty clear as far as I am concerned. Use some initiative. You'll need it if you're going to be a consultant!

Thanks Anon, for the endorsement of my post.

J, You should know by now that ACN is split by more divisions than there are hot dinners. This was certainly true when I was with the firm.

E.g. So you could join financial services, Comms. & High Tech. or Products etc.

Either that or you could be more generic (cross industry) and join London Delivery Centre, Global Architecture & Core Technologies etc.

Note: All divisions have sub divisions - So GACT has desktop technologies and FS has Regulatory etc

The latter being more for techies as they have a strong technology bias. The former (Products, Resources etc) are industry aligned and so will have some non techie roles which you could aim for.

The choice (vote) is yours, just make you use it. Remember most people complain that ACN is for Androids but believe me, if you can work for a couple of years there you can work anywhere.

Good Luck

Sorry, didnt mean to sound stupid, I was actually refering to which operating groups tend to do less tech focused work out the five, if that is a viable question. I also know that i should if not overly keen on tech be more inclined to the business capabilitiy group rather than tech or outsourcing! I do know accenutre and understand its matrix structure (sorry if i didnt make my initial post clear), but as stated was refering in particular to the operating groups. Regards
